This Itch of Writing: the studio
teaching, mentoring, tutoring and editing by author Emma Darwin
Welcome! And thanks for dropping by. I am a writer of fiction and non-fiction, and an experienced tutor and mentor for writers at all levels. Whether you're an individual beginner, an established author, or a festival or course director, do use the links on the left to explore how I can help you.
I have taught courses and workshops from Zurich to New Zealand, not least as an Associate Lecturer in Creative Writing for The Open University. I've worked one-to-one with writers at all stages of their development. My blog, This Itch of Writing, is read by creative and academic writers and industry professionals around the world. I am currently working on Getting Started Writing Historical Fiction for John Murray Learning/Teach Yourself.
I have a PhD in Creative Writing from Goldsmiths, and have held Royal Literary Fund Fellowships at Goldsmiths and now the Royal College of Music, working extensively with academic writers at all levels from freshers to doctoral candidates.
My fiction has won and been shortlisted for many prizes: we think that my debut novel The Mathematics of Love is the only novel ever to have been simultaneously listed for the Commonwealth Writers' Best First Book, and the Romantic Novelists' Association Book of the Year. My second novel A Secret Alchemy was a Sunday Times Bestseller, and my short fiction has been broadcast on BBC Radio 4. For more about me and my writing, click here.
